A woman who’s been missing from Mendocino County has been found dead. According to the California Highway Patrol, she was found inside a truck in the Trinity River. Roxanna Miller of Garberville was reported missing on January 29th. Police knew she’d been traveling from Mendocino County through Trinity County along highway 299. On Tuesday, CHP reported finding a truck matching the description of Miller’s vehicle submerged in the Trinity River at the bottom of a steep embankment near milepost 18. With help from recovery divers, they were able to recover the truck and found Miller’s body inside. The incident is still being investigated.
A man was arrested after causing a disturbance near Oak Manor School in Ukiah. Yesterday, UPD responded to a report of a suspicious man shouting and making threats near the school. The school resource officer found Neil Waldron behind the school holding a metal chain. Waldron fought with and was eventually tased by the SRO. When Ukiah PD got there, they found suspected Methamphetamine on Waldron, and he was arrested. They also found out he was on parole for a past burglary. The school resource officer was treated for a hand injury. Waldron was taken to the Mendocino County Jail on charges of resisting arrest, drug possession, and parole violation.
No more new gas stations in Mendocino County. That’s what the Mendocino County Democratic Party called for last weekend. They released a resolution asking for construction of new gas stations to be prohibited. The resolution was backed up with statements about Climate Change and actions that have already been taken by state and local authorities. The Grass Roots Institute started working with the Climate Crisis Working Group last month, along with local residents. They were successful in lobbying the Planning Commission to block a use permit for a new gas station in Redwood Valley. They said in the coming weeks and months they want to work on prohibiting new gas stations across all of Mendocino County.
California Highway Patrol is investigating a single car crash in Clear Lake. Around 6am yesterday, a woman from Kelseyville was headed east on State Route 281 when she crossed the opposite lanes, went off the road, and overturned. Mendo Fever reports the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her cause of death is still being investigated by the CHP. Her name has not yet been released.
Another business in the Pear Tree Center is closing. JCPenney has announced their Ukiah store will be the 3rd to close in the shopping center in recent months. Following in the footsteps of Rod’s Shoes and D. Williams Jewelers, both of which had been open for 40 years or more. Willits news reported a JC Penney employee said the store would be closing in late May. No reason was given for the closing. It’s not clear how many employees will be affected.
The State Water Resources Control Board will hold a public workshop in Lakeport tomorrow. The purpose of the workshop will be to help explain a recent information order for the Clear Lake Watershed. Property owners started getting certified letters this month asking them to provide info on their water usage. The letter got some push back from community members, so officials called the workshop to try and help. Residents are invited to the Board of Supervisor chambers on North Forbes Street in Lakeport, tomorrow at 11am. The workshop will allow staff to walk residents through the information order requirements, and answer questions.
