This could be the day that hundreds of PG & E customers have waited for all week. The latest reports show around 2,000 customers still without power after the weekend windstorm. The utility says it hopes to have that number close to zero by 10 tonight. The Mendocino County Office of Emergency Management wants residents to be patient with the cleanup and help out by reporting any damage they have.
The Lakeport Fire Protection District is getting its ambulance back. The District donated a surplus rig to the city in June 2021 with the city intending to turn it into a mobile police command post but couldn’t come up with the money. Now, according to Lake CO news/com. the city council has voted to return the ambulance. The distinct plans to refurbish it and keep it in reserve while other ambulances get a makeover over the next 18 months.
The Lake County Board of Supervisors has heard some suggestions for updating the county’s cannabis policy. The Record-Bee reports that the Director of the Community Development Department Mireys Turner, told the board this week that the county should consider allowing retail delivery as one way to prop up the cannabis industry. Council members questioned Turner about where such a company could operate and if it would be attached to a brick-and-mortar storefront. The council would like to see a possible ordinance as the discussion on the ideas continues.
Research from scientists at Berkley suggests support for legal cannabis farms can be an important tool for water management. They studied farms in Mendocino and Humboldt County and found that growers use less than one percent of the area’s water supply with illegal grow operations taking much more. They say illegal growth is a threat to the watershed because they’re more likely to use groundwater, rather than stored water during the dry season.
