The cleanup continues after this week’s rain. CHP reports no roads are closed in Mendocino and Lake Countries as of late this afternoon. PG&E also reports less than a dozen power outages across its Mendocino and Lake County service areas. The National Weather Service reports the highest rainfall totals were 5.4 inches in Manchester, north of Point Arena, and just under 3 inches in Upper Lake in Lake County. More rain is forecast for Sunday, but it should not cause flooding.
Cal Fire wants kids to share how they feel about trees. They’re sponsoring a poster contest in time for Arbor Month in March. The contrast is open to children between 5 and 12 with a theme of “I Love Trees Because…” A committee will review all submitted posters and select the statewide finalists. Each winner will receive a cash prize ranging from $25 to $100 and a printed copy of their poster. The top winning posters will be unveiled at the Arbor Week press conference and will go up on the California ReLeaf and CAL FIRE websites and be shared via social media channels. The website Californialeaf.org has the details.
