The state’s snowpack is higher, but it is still below the seasonal average. The second measurement last week in the Sierra Nevadas was 29 inches, which equals about 10 inches of water. That’s about 60 percent of the average at this time of year. The level has been up since January 1, but still short of where the Department of Water Resources would like to see it.
An outside auditor is recommending Mendocino County do more to make sure its books are in order. Mendofever.com reports the auditor told the Board of Supervisors this week that several accounts contained significant errors, while others were not tracked properly. Auditor Clifton Larson Allen LLP says the errors were caught but similar mistakes could lead to fraud and put the county at risk. The accountants say the county has to train employees and put more safeguards in place to make sure the numbers all add up correctly. The Board agreed to address all of the findings. The audit covers the 21/22 fiscal year. The report for 22/23 finances is still going on.
The Clearlake City Council might pull the plug on virtual comments at city meetings. The council started hearing those online comments during the pandemic four years ago, but lately, there have been more and more inappropriate comments. LakeCoNews reports at the last council meeting, there were three virtual racist and antisemitic comments that had nothing to do with the agenda. Comments from city contractors and consultants would be allowed as appropriate under proposed new rules for outside participation.
