CalFire is taking applications for grants for Wildfire resilience programs. Cal Fire says the 8 million dollar grants support California’s goals of improved forest health, resilience to climate change, and reduced forestland impacts due to devastating wildfires, in line with the goals of the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force. CAL FIRE is now accepting proposals due no later than February 26. The grants will address several areas, including more technical assistance, better outreach about forest health, and establishing emergency forest restoration teams. Applicants must show they can handle programs to benefit landowners from three to 5,000 acres. There are details about all of them through the Cal Fire Forest Resilience Program website.

Ukiah’s historic Palace Hotel could come down by summer if the state signs off on a 6.6 million dollar grant for Guidiville Rancheria and its partners to redevelop the site. Mendofever.com reports a deal is in the works, but the tribe says nothing is likely until the end of next month. Reports say the proposal would tear down the building, clean up the site, and build a boutique/hotel/retail/housing/office complex. It would not include a casino or gambling. The city says the building is in poor shape, but preservation groups want more information about the ultimate plan before the wrecking ball moves in.
