PG&E is joining with several Lake County organizations to increase wildfire resilience. The Hometown Wildlife Safety Collaboration will support fuel reduction, a wildlife protection plan, and a biomass usage program, specific to Lake County. PG&E executive Dave Canny the group will bring together the strengths of its partners to reduce the threat of wildfires. Those partners include Clear Lake Environmental Research Center, Northshore Fire Protection District, Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, California Fire Chiefs Association, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, US Forest Service, and CalFire.

The Lakeport City Council has hired a consultant to help find the city’s next police chief. LakeCoNews.com reports the council has approved a contract with Bob Hall and Associates to start recruiting to replace long-time Chief Bob Rassmussen, who is retiring. The city will pay $27,000 for the search.r. The search starts February 1st and the contract with Bob Hall runs until January 31st, 2025. Rasumissin is retiring this summer but he wants to stay in public service. He is running for County Supervisor in District Four.

Another property insurer is pulling out of California. The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. says it will no longer write homeowners policies here after February 1 because of what it calls – unique challenges. Existing policies that meet company underwriting guidelines will continue. Among the policies that will no longer be available, the heavily promoted joint homeowners insurance program with AARP. The Hartford joins State Farm and Allstate, among the 7 that have quit issuing new property policies in California since 2022.The Hartford says it will continue writing all its other existing insurance products in California, including business insurance and personal auto policies.

There are no pets allowed.and the walks will be cancelled if there is rain. They will be on the first Saturday every month throughout the year, but you’ll have to get up with the birds, because things get going at 8:30. The next one is February 10th at the park on Highway 53 between Lower Lake and Clearlake.
