The Mendocino Coast Humane Society is expanding into a new space. Mendofever.com reports that the society will take over a building next door, used until last summer by the coastal branch of the county-run animal shelter. The Fort Bragg City Council has approved the Humane Society’s lease of the county-owned building for a dollar a year plus costs. Executive Director Judy Martin says her group is committed to animals along the coast. They’ll use the new space to isolate animals brought in who are sick or unavailable for adoption. She says the humane society does not put down healthy, adoptable animals, but an on-site vet can euthanize animals with serious medical or behavioral issues.
